I started writing music around age 11 or 12. I still remember my first real song, with these stirring lyrics:
All my life I had been a loser / All I had was my dance and my song / That was before you, baby / That was before you came along
(Chorus!) Baby, why did you leave me / You said you loved me / Why did you go / Baby, why did you leave me / You said you loved me / Why did you go
Inspiring, yes? You’re ready to hire me, I can tell.
I write music for women’s voices because that’s what I sing with. Admittedly, some of my voicings would be more appropriate for tenors, but I do think it’s important to have as many octaves as possible in a piece, don’t you? My work is noted for its rhythms, hooks, vocal builds, and strong emotional impact.
Most pieces are written for a flexible, soul-based ensemble, not a traditional choral sound. They make an excellent addition to a choir looking to add some spice to their repertoire. However, my pieces are written primarily because the groups I sing with can’t find our style of music in traditional choral works.
Many charts are available for licensing. See categories Original & Mostly Original Compositions; Arrangements; and Transcriptions for information on each piece.
